In the midst of all the doom and gloom, there appears to be good news on the horizon for West of Ireland horse breeders.
Rockrimmon Silver Diamond (RID) will be with his new custodian, Charles Hanley, Claremorris Horse Breeding Centre for 2010 and 2011 Seasons. This is a wonderful opportunity for West of Ireland Breeders to have access to a highly regarded Irish Draught Stallion who has seen the world over.
In 1997, as a 3 year Old, he emerged from his 12 weeks performance testing with a score of 220, the highest for that year and was the only Irish Draught Stallion to receive full approval status. He was then exported to the United States but in 2005 he was presented to the Irish Horse Board by his late owner, Mr. Barry O'Brien.
For the 2006 and 2007 breeding seasons, the stallion stood with Mr. Tim Carey, Co. Westmeath and for 2008 and 2009 he was with Mr. Fulton Buchanan, Co. Donegal.
He has now been officially handed over to his new custodian, Charles Hanley, by Horse Sport Ireland for the next two seasons. In a statement Charles said he is delighted to have been chosen to stand the stallion and is looking forward to the breeding season.
